Republican Women’s Caucus Issues Statement in Support of White House Action to Prioritize Women’s Health
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Republican Women’s Caucus (RWC) today applauded President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump’s initiative establishing a Women’s Health Division at the National Institutes of Health and a White House Women’s Health Task Force to close research gaps and modernize care for women.
The announcement builds on congressional Republicans’ work to deliver practical healthcare solutions, including the $50 billion Rural Health Transformation Program to strengthen rural healthcare, support providers, and bring services closer to women’s front doors.
The need for greater attention is clear: women make up roughly half the population, yet a major analysis found that women’s health research received only about 9% of NIH research grant funding from 2013 through 2023.
“Women have spent far too long being overlooked, underdiagnosed, and underserved when it comes to their own health. That ends now,” said RWC Chairwoman Congresswoman Kat Cammack. “Women’s health should never have been an afterthought, and it certainly shouldn’t take an executive order to make it a national priority. I applaud President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for stepping up and demanding better. As a mother, I’m not interested in more studies that sit on shelves or promises that go nowhere. I want answers, breakthroughs, and better care. Our mothers deserved better. We deserve better. And our daughters should never have to fight the same battles.”
“Advancing women’s health means strengthening families, communities, and our nation,” said RWC Co-Chair Senator Katie Britt. “Too many women face unanswered questions about their health and spend years searching for effective care. I thank President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for championing an initiative focused on closing research gaps and accelerating discoveries that can make a meaningful difference for women across America.”
“Scientific discovery should translate into earlier diagnoses, more effective treatments, and better outcomes,” said Congresswoman Stephanie Bice. “This initiative offers an important opportunity to close gaps in women’s health research and accelerate innovation. I look forward to supporting efforts that bring those advances from the laboratory to the women who need them.”
“As a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and the Vice Chair of the Faith and Leadership Initiative in the Republican Women's Caucus, I know how important it is for women to be heard and for providers to have the best available evidence to guide their care,” said Congresswoman Sheri Biggs. “A stronger focus on women’s health can help give patients and clinicians better answers. I thank President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for championing this effort.”
The Republican Women’s Caucus looks forward to working with the administration to advance research, expand access, and improve health outcomes for women at every stage of life.
